Macro's DXL Series of double bubble lines for biaxially oriented film is the ideal solution for processors seeking to produce high performance tubing for multilayer barrier shrink bags. Macro has designed the DXL Series to produce high performance, barrier shrink films for food packaging in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Applications
The primary application is the production of tubing for 5-layer shrink bags with PVDC in the middle layer.
PVDC SHRINK BAG PROPERTIES
Excellent barrier to H2O, O2 and aromas
Barrier properties unaffected by moisture
FDA approved
Superior puncture resistance
Cost effective
Shrink % MD/TD = 40-60%
Heat sealable
Printable
A versatile system, the DXL Series is also capable of producing barrier structures using EVOH as the barrier resin as well. For example, typical 5-layer ABCDE structures produced on the DXL Double Bubble Line include:
PE/EVA/PVDC/EVA/PE
PE/TIE/EVOH/EVA/PE
The DXL Series features:
Outputs between 25 - 125 kg/hr (55 - 275 lb/hr)
Tubing width between 200 - 600 mm (8 - 24 in)
Film gauge between 40 - 80 microns (1.5 - 3.0 mil)
Extruders
MacroPlast Extruders are designed to provide superior melt quality and throughput for a wide range of polymers of varying rheology. They are efficient and reliable, which translates into low operating costs and continuity of operation.
Die
The patented TaperPack™ stackable coextrusion die is the heart of any DXL line, providing the flexibility to produce coextruded structures of exceptional quality with even the most difficult to process polymers. Each TaperPack™ is computer designed for optimized processability using the rheological data of the polymers to be coextruded. The die’s performance is enhanced by its reduced wetted surface area, which results in very low residence time and pressure drop. TaperPack™ dies posses many unique features that set it apart from any comparable die in the market:
Low wetted surface area
Low resin residence time
Reduced pressure drop
Processing flexibility
Fast purging
Compact and lightweight compared to other coextrusion dies
Reduced number of parts compared to other coextrusion dies
Fast assembly and disassembly
Reduced heating and cooling time
No die block required
Simplified Internal Bubble Cooling (IBC) design
Downstream
All DXL lines come standard with a vertical oscillating haul-off system to ensure proper gauge randomization for excellent roll quality. The lines are completed with Macro’s automatic tubing surface winder.
Supervisory Control System
To keep operating costs low, enhance safety and to produce consistently high quality products automation has evolved into a key component of any complete film production line. Macro offers its SUPERCOM supervisory control package along with a number of optional automation features to satisfy virtually any requirement.
The SUPERCOM supervisory controls system assists the operator during start-up, troubleshooting and normal operation. The operator’s touch screen provides convenient access to line parameters such as temperatures, speeds and tensions. The screens also provide varous troubleshooting features to help find the source of a problem should one arise. Recipe options are also available to facilitate quick start-ups and product changeovers.
Upgrades
Triple Bubble Setup
For triple bubble setups, an additional blowing unit is incorporated into the line to create a third bubble. Randomizing of the gauge is done immediately before winding - the winder is installed on a rotating/oscillating platform.
Macro's High-Speed Unwind-Rewind Line is the ideal solution for rapid off-line treatment of double-bubble films at speeds up to 300 m/min (1,000 ft/min). Click here for more.
