When an interuption in production occurs downstream from the TDO in the operation of a BOPP line the base sheet exiting the MDO is manually cut and transferred to a scrap film winder until the holdback is cleared. This allows the extruder(s) and the MDO to idle until the TDO is ready to take film again. The manual cut and transfer operation is a safety hazard because the thick base sheet exiting the MDO is hot and moving at speeds around 150 m/min (500 fpm), and there are rapidly spinning rollers and idlers in the operator's proximity.
Macro's automatic Scrap Film Winder for BOPP Lines eliminates the safety hazard created by the manual cut and transfer operation.
The winder is installed between the MDO and TDO sections of a BOPP line. The web exiting the MDO is threaded through its idlers before entering the TDO. In the event of a downstream interuption, the winder can be engaged to cut and wind the base sheet until the interruption at the TDO or downstream is cleared.
