Grupo Olefinas Places a Firm Order for Top-of-the-Line
Macro 5-Layer Film Line
Grupo Olefinas, a well know firm in the plastic business in Central and South America, as an innovative corporate group with a history of over 45 years in the industry, and some developments that have been the basis for consistent growth and leadership, has placed a firm order to acquire the most advanced five layer blown film line that Macro Engineering produces today.
The configuration of the equipment, Macro’s model BXL-5180 blown film line, was a combined task completed by several executives from both companies, from production up to marketing and sales. The specifications and features selected take into consideration the marketing expectations of Grupo Olefinas that includes the production of multilayer barrier films for regional converters that serve the food, beverage and chemical industries, and also films for the agricultural business for barrier to agro-chems.
Macro feels very satisfied with the selection process and with the design chosen, which includes many of the features that make Macro one of the leading manufacturers of multilayer extrusion lines. Macro is also certain that this acquisition will consolidate Grupo Olefinas as an innovative corporation that will catapult the regional flexible packaging industry by being a domestic source for converts of film structures that are demanded by today’s market, but not available locally.
Macro expects delivery of this line by April 2006, and Grupo Olefinas expects deliveries of specialty agricultural films by June and barrier films to converters by July.
The BXL-5180 line ordered by Grupo Olefinas includes Macro’s most advanced technology for producing the best possible film. At the heart of the system is the patented MacroPack™ coextrusion die with Advanced Multilayer Technology (AMT). The die has the flexibility of processing a multitude of resins and resin blends, to produce films with excellent gauge uniformity with the desired optical and mechanical properties. The MacroPack™ die is recognized by its ease to purge, even with difficult to purge resins like poliamide. Changing from one multilayer structure to another is done in less time and with less waste. The die is retrofitted with Macro’s signature D10 dual lip air ring for optimum bubble cooling, stability and gauge uniformity. For added output, the die includes Internal Bubble Cooling (IBC). Full computerized line supervision and control will be achieved by Macro’s SUPERCOM system.
Grupo Olefinas wanted to make sure that the film produced by the Macro line would maintain its high quality from the coextrusion process all the way to the final rolls. For this reason, for winders, they specified the line with Macro’s AUTOMAX TFB180G winders. These automatic turret winders are bidirectional and include features as taper tension and gap winding to produce the best rolls possible regardless of the properties of the film being wound.
